Standards_AS9100

AS 9100 is the standard developed for managing and implementing quality systems in aerospace industry. The standard identifies the requirements for Quality Assurance in Design, Development, Production, Installation and Servicing in aerospace industry.

 

Specifically, 83 requirements were added in the 9100:1999 version of AS 9100 over the current version of ISO 9000. The standard was originally developed by U.S. aerospace prime contracts under the nomenclature of AS 9000 and was intended to streamline quality standards in the industry.7 Now the standard has become an international standard throughout the aerospace industry.

AS 9100 is needed because it standardizes aerospace quality on an international level. It achieves improvements in quality and reduce costs throughout the value stream. ISO 9000 does not contain regulatory requirements or importance of safety, reliability, or maintainability. AS 9100 establishes quality agreements at an international level.9

AS 9100 is currently maintained, published, and controlled by the International Aerospace and Quality Group (IAQG). IAQG is here to “achieve significant performance improvements in Quality, Delivery, and consequently Cost, on all products and services throughout the value stream,” according to their mission statement.8 IAQG publishes the 9100 standard in three sectors: SAE AS9100 (Americas), AECMA-STAN EN9100 (European), and JIS Q9100 (Japan)9.

Meeting AS 9100 Requirements
